Not sure which to pick? If your channel is stuck and you can make changes yourself, start with the written report. If you’d rather talk it through and build a plan together, the bundle is the best value. If you want someone alongside you for a month, choose the intensive coaching.
What a YouTube consultant does
A YouTube consultant helps you make better decisions, in the right order, based on data and experience. When I audit a channel, the first job is finding the one constraint holding everything else back. Fixing a thumbnail problem won’t help if the real issue is that nobody searches for your topics.
The work usually covers:
- Diagnosing why the channel isn’t growing, using your analytics rather than guesswork
- Clarifying who the channel is for and why they should come back
- Choosing topics people want, backed by search and outlier data
- Improving titles, thumbnails and the first 30 seconds, where most views are won or lost
- Fixing retention and video structure
- Building a repeatable content system your team can run without me
- Lining YouTube up with business goals such as leads, authority or revenue
Unlike an agency, a consultant doesn’t just do tasks. The aim is to help you think clearly, avoid wasted effort and build something that keeps growing after the engagement ends. Read more in what a YouTube consultant does and how I run a channel audit.
Is your channel stuck and you can’t see why?
In a free 30-minute call I’ll look at your channel, tell you what I think is holding it back, and say honestly whether consulting is worth it for you right now.
Worth booking if you’ve uploaded for months without growth, you’re a business getting views but no enquiries, or you’re about to invest more time and money into YouTube.
Who I work with
Creators
From a first channel to breaking through a plateau at 50,000+ subscribers. The most common situation: you publish consistently, some videos work and others don’t, and you can’t see the pattern. You might be chasing monetisation, where the 2027 rules now ask for 8,000 qualified watch hours or 20 million Shorts views alongside 1,000 subscribers.
Businesses and founders
Mainly UK professional services, coaching, e-commerce and SaaS businesses. The usual problem is a channel that works like a video newsletter for existing customers, with no way for new people to find it. Business channels need a different approach, because the route from viewer to enquiry matters as much as the view count. More in YouTube for coaches and consultants and YouTube for professional services.
Brands, media companies and agencies
I’ve run YouTube strategy at scale: four channels for Crypto Banter, three across the Coin Bureau network, and a kids’ brand distributed on YouTube, Amazon Kids+ and Yippee. If you manage several channels or need senior input across a content team, that’s familiar ground. See in-house vs agency vs consultant.
How working together works
- Discovery call (free, 30 minutes). A diagnostic conversation, not a sales pitch. I ask what’s happening, what you’ve tried and what you need. If I’m not the right fit, I’ll say so.
- Audit. I go through your channel data: search and suggested traffic, click-through rate, retention, topics and competitors.
- Plan. You get a prioritised fix order and a 3-month plan, so you know what to do first, second and third.
- Coaching or advisory (optional). Calls to work through the plan, review packaging before you publish and adjust as results come in.

How to choose the best YouTube consultant in the UK
Plenty of people call themselves YouTube consultants. Use these checks before you hire anyone, including me.
| What to check | Why it matters | How I measure up |
|---|---|---|
| Results on client channels as well as their own | Growing your own channel is a controlled experiment. Client work proves the method transfers | 1M+ subscribers grown across client channels, with named case studies |
| Specific numbers you can check | Logos without numbers tell you nothing | Public channels with before and after subscriber counts |
| Recognised credentials | Shows they know YouTube’s own systems and policies | YouTube Certified Expert since 2017, ex-vidIQ coaching team |
| A diagnosis before a prescription | Generic advice ignores your real constraint | Every engagement starts with a call and an audit |
| No guaranteed subscriber numbers | Nobody controls the algorithm. Guarantees are a red flag | I commit to a clear plan and measurable targets, not promises |
| Current knowledge | Advice from 2019 can hurt you in 2026 | Working daily on live channels, including BeInCrypto and BeInFinance |
| Published prices | You should know the cost before the call | All packages priced above |

YouTube consultant vs coach vs agency vs channel manager
| Option | Focus | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Consultant | Diagnosis, strategy and a plan | Channels that need direction and can execute |
| Coach | Skills, habits and accountability over time | Creators building their own ability |
| Agency | Production and execution at volume | Brands with budget and a set strategy |
| Channel manager | Running the channel day to day | Businesses without time to run it themselves |
I do consulting, coaching and channel management, so I can recommend whichever fits rather than whichever I sell. Most clients start with consulting and decide on execution support later. More in agency vs freelance consultant and coaching vs online courses.
YouTube consulting in the UK
I’m based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, and work with clients remotely by Zoom, so you get the same service whether you’re in Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield, London, Glasgow or overseas. I’ve worked with UK creators and businesses for years, and I also run channels for international brands, so I know where UK strategy needs to be different.
- UK search terms are less crowded. Searches about UK topics, such as ISAs, UK property, HMRC rules or UK employment law, usually face far less competition than their US equivalents. A UK-focused topic plan often beats trying to compete in the global market.
- Ad rates vary hugely by niche. Finance, business and professional services earn much more per view than general lifestyle content, which changes how many views you need for YouTube to pay. See CPM by niche.
- UK sponsorships work differently. For channels under 100,000 subscribers, approaching UK brands directly with a UK-audience pitch tends to work better than US creator marketplaces.
- Disclosure rules are UK-specific. Ads and affiliate links need to follow the ASA and CAP rules, which I build into any monetisation plan.

Is a YouTube consultant worth it?
Usually worth it if you
- Have been consistent for months but stalled
- Are about to put more time or money into YouTube
- Run a business and need YouTube to bring enquiries
- Want to skip months of trial and error
Usually not worth it if you
- Want overnight results
- Aren’t willing to change direction
- Haven’t published anything yet and won’t commit to a schedule
- Want someone to post for you without changing the strategy
A simple way to judge it: what is six months of guessing costing you in time, missed sales or a delayed income? For most channels that are already publishing, a £595 audit that points you at the right problem costs less than one month of wasted effort. Read the full breakdown in is YouTube coaching worth the investment?
If you’re starting from zero, here’s what I’d do first
- Pick one viewer and one problem your channel solves for them.
- Find 20 topics that person searches for, and check smaller channels are ranking for them.
- Make 10 videos on those topics before judging anything.
- Put most of your effort into titles, thumbnails and the first 30 seconds.
- Review click-through rate and retention every two weeks, then make more of what works.
If you’ve done all that and it still isn’t working, that’s when a consultant pays for themselves. My why your channel isn’t growing diagnostic is a good free next step.
People also ask
Who is the best YouTube consultant in the UK?
The best fit depends on your channel, but look for verifiable client results, YouTube certification and published prices. Alan Spicer, based in Huddersfield, is a YouTube Certified Expert with six Silver Play Buttons and more than a million subscribers grown across client channels such as Coin Bureau and Woof & Joy.
Do YouTube consultants work remotely?
Most do. Channel data, audits and calls all work online, so where your consultant lives matters less than their results. I work with clients across the UK and overseas by Zoom.
What is a YouTube Certified Expert?
Someone who has passed YouTube’s certification exams on topics such as audience growth, channel management and content monetisation. I’ve held YouTube Certified Expert status since 2017. My guide on what the certification means explains it.
Can I get a free YouTube channel review?
The free discovery call includes a first look at your channel and an honest view on what’s holding it back. A full written audit is a paid service because it takes several hours of analysis.
YouTube consultant UK: FAQ
What does a YouTube consultant do?
A YouTube consultant studies your channel’s data, finds the specific problem limiting growth, such as topic choice, packaging, retention or consistency, and gives you a prioritised plan to fix it. Good consultants also leave you with a system your team can keep running.
How much does a YouTube consultant cost in the UK?
Experienced UK YouTube consultants typically charge 75 to 200 pounds an hour, 300 to 1,500 pounds for a written channel audit, or 500 to 3,000 pounds a month for ongoing work. My own packages start at 595 pounds for a written channel report, after a free discovery call.
How much does Alan Spicer charge?
The discovery call is free. A written channel report costs 595 pounds, a 1-hour consultancy call 799 pounds, the consultation and deep dive report bundle 1,195 pounds, and intensive coaching with four calls 2,795 pounds. Ongoing advisory and channel management are priced on request.
When should I hire a YouTube consultant?
Consider it when you’ve published 20 or more videos without meaningful growth, your channel has plateaued for three months despite consistent uploads, you’re a business getting views but no enquiries, or you’re launching and want the strategy right from day one.
What qualifications should a YouTube consultant have?
Look for YouTube certification, a track record on client channels rather than only their own, numbers you can check publicly, experience in your type of content, and honesty about what they can and can’t promise.
Can a YouTube consultant guarantee results?
No honest consultant guarantees subscriber or view numbers, because results depend on your niche, competition and how well the plan is carried out. What I commit to is a data-backed diagnosis, a clear fix order and a 3-month plan with measurable targets.
What’s the difference between a YouTube consultant and a YouTube channel manager?
A consultant diagnoses problems, sets strategy and builds your team’s ability to execute. A channel manager runs the channel day to day, from publishing to optimisation and community. I offer both, and most clients start with consulting.
Do you work with businesses as well as creators?
Yes. I work with businesses and brands, including professional services, coaching, e-commerce, SaaS and media companies, as well as individual creators from a first channel to six figures of subscribers.
Do you only work with UK clients?
No. I’m based in Huddersfield and work with clients across the UK, but I also work with international brands and creators. Everything is done remotely by Zoom, and package prices are shown in your local currency at checkout.
How do I get started?
Book the free 30-minute discovery call. We’ll look at your channel and goals, and I’ll recommend the package that fits, or tell you if you don’t need one yet.
Final thoughts
If you’re looking for a YouTube consultant in the UK, choose someone who can show results on channels they didn’t own, explain their prices up front and start with a diagnosis rather than a template. That’s how I work: a free call, an honest audit, a clear plan and as much or as little support as you need after that.
The easiest next step is a conversation. Book your free discovery call, or start with the client results and how I run an audit.
