What Is An MCN? Should I Join An Multi Channel Network (MCN)? How to Join and MCN? YouTube MCNs are a collection of youtube content creators groups together to help trade knowledge and potentially increase bargaining power. Are there benefits of joining an mcn? YouTube Tips and Tricks channels tend to shy away from MCNs but I thought I would explain What Is An MCN and Should I Join An MCN? As well as my own personal experiences of dealing with YouTube MCNs and being solo without an MCN.
Multi Channel Networks or MCNs have been around for a long time. Initially they had the upper hand in helping with the YouTube Verified and YouTube Adwords and Partnership programmes. They would bundle channels together and offer extras that have become commonplace today such as Custom Thumbnails, access to the YouTube Partnership Program, Monetization of Gaming Content (Machinima) and maybe even licensing of audio tracks or movie trailers.
Over time this list of extras has diminished while the amount of MCNs have grown. Many are just companies looking to boost stats to look good to advertising companies and very few offer actual lasting support or benefits for the long term YouTuber.
Does a YouTube Channel Name Matter? Looking for channel name ideas? Trying to think of a good YouTube channel name? Pick a channel name? Maybe you are even wondering if a channel name matters!? Alan Spicer talks about his opinions on choosing a Channel Name on YouTube.
Channel names can help establish an online brand and help you communicate to viewers what your channel is about. A really good channel name can tell you what the channel I about without even looking at the videos. A channel name will follow you throughout your video making career and for this reason I suggest you consider what you want your channel to be about before you pick your name.
Is the channel for business? Is the channel about news? Or is the channel a personal vlogging/diary channel? All these questions can affect the direction of your branding.
The YouTube Snowball Effect is a myth that all small youtubers hunt for. The belief that at some point something clicks and you start snowballing in views, subscribers and the snowball effect grows your channel on auto pilot. This is TRUE and this is FALSE.
The Snowball Effect on YouTube is something that can be triggered but you have to start making the initial snowballs and push them around to make the ball bigger and bigger until the snowball itself starts to build momentum.
On my Mr Hairy Brit entertainment channel it took me 3.5 years of hard work, publishing 3 videos a week and amassing 700+ videos to make that “snowball” start rolling. Over the years I made sure that each week I worked hard to get a few more views and a few more subscribers than the last month and had that build over time. Once I had such a huge back catalogue and a loyal regular publishing schedule, I was able to shove that large bolder a little harder and help it roll a little further each time.
Work hard, keep doing the right habits and the snowball will grow and eventually will start rolling for you.
A Step by Step Guide To YouTube Video Structure Tutorial – 6 Step YouTube Video Formula. Video Structure can help boost engagement, get more subscribers and help establish a type of content you offer on the channel. It can offer help you find a place for buzzwords, catchphrases and tribal loyalty.
Everyone asks Why Am I Losing Subscribers! There are many reasons why you are losing subscribers but I have boiled it down into 3 reasons you are losing youtube subscribers – and no its not the YouTube Subscriber Glitch
1 – The YouTube Subscriber Purge – This is when YouTube removes all inactive, spam, bot and dead accounts
2 – Content Change – Over the life of a YouTube channel the content will change and evolve and people might choose to subscribe or unsubscribe due to that change.
3 – Audience Change – Over time youtube subscribers grow up and this may mean they no longer watch your videos as they dont help them anymore. Or they grow up and your content is more what they want to watch and subscribe.

Video SEO or YouTube Video Search Optimisation is the most important thing about ranking your YouTube Video. YouTube Video SEO tips helps teach YouTube what your video is about and where to rank your video compared to other related videos. YouTube Tips and Video SEO Tips
Sometimes it can be hard to rank organically in search – YIPI shares their 7 most common SEM mistakes.
Video SEO basics are based on 3 core areas.
VIDEO TITLE
Using Video SEO you need to make sure your title includes the keyword(s) you are looking to rank for. For example this video I have optimised for “Video SEO” and so the keywords are at the front of the video title.
VIDEO DESCRIPTION
In Video SEO the description can be one of the most powerful part to help your video rank higher. You are allowed up to 5000 characters in a YouTube Video SEO description. This is very important metadata that YouTube indexes to help understand what the video is about. Make sure to use the keyword you are wishing to rank for as well as relevant and related keywords. This helps YouTube and Google decide how you should rank and what your video is about.
VIDEO TAGS
Video SEO Tags are the baseline for everything previously mentioned. If you distil your Video Title and Video Description into Tags then it ties it all together into a well optimised package. Make sure you use the keywords from the title, the keywords from the description as well as category based tags. Video SEO, or Search Engine Optimization for videos on YouTube, is crucial for anyone looking to grow their YouTube channel, especially if you’re new to the platform. Let me explain why it’s important in simple terms:
Visibility: YouTube is the second-largest search engine in the world after Google. Millions of people use it to search for content every day. Video SEO helps your videos appear higher in YouTube’s search results, making it easier for people to find your content. When your videos are more visible, you have a better chance of attracting new viewers.
Competition: There’s a lot of content on YouTube, and chances are, there are already videos similar to what you want to create. Video SEO helps you stand out in a crowded field. It’s like putting a spotlight on your video so that it’s more likely to be seen among the sea of other videos.
Audience Growth: When your videos are optimized for search, you’re more likely to attract viewers who are interested in your content. These viewers are more likely to subscribe to your channel and become long-term fans. Video SEO is an essential part of building your audience.
Engagement: YouTube rewards videos that keep viewers engaged. Optimized videos are more likely to be suggested by YouTube’s algorithm to viewers interested in your niche. This can lead to increased watch time, more likes, comments, and shares, all of which can boost your video’s visibility even further.
Monetization: If you’re planning to make money on YouTube through ads, affiliate marketing, or other means, video SEO is critical. Higher visibility leads to more views, which in turn can lead to more revenue.
Long-term Success: Video SEO isn’t just about getting quick views. It’s about building a sustainable presence on YouTube. When you consistently optimize your videos, you’re more likely to see steady growth over time.
To get started with video SEO, consider these basic tips:
Keyword Research: Identify relevant keywords that people might use to find your content. Use tools like Google’s Keyword Planner or YouTube’s search suggestions to discover popular search terms.
Title Optimization: Craft a compelling and keyword-rich video title that accurately represents your content.
Description: Write a detailed video description that includes relevant keywords and provides context about your video.
Tags: Add relevant tags (keywords) to your video to help YouTube understand what your content is about.
Thumbnail: Create an eye-catching thumbnail that encourages viewers to click on your video.
Engagement: Encourage likes, comments, and shares by asking questions or prompting discussions in your video.
Consistency: Upload content regularly to keep your audience engaged and coming back for more.
Remember, while video SEO is essential, creating high-quality, engaging content is equally important. SEO can get people to click on your video, but it’s the quality of your content that will keep them watching and coming back for more. So, focus on both aspects to grow your YouTube channel successfully.
Hub Content, Help Content and Hero Content Videos are the 3 Type Of Content YOUR Channel Needs To Grow. Hub content is focused on you channels core audience for example daily vlogs, regular news or vlogs. Help Content are YouTube Videos designed to teach viewers something, a list, a lesson or a tutorial. Hero Content is when you go for the big flagship video that takes you the longest to edit, has the highest budget and is seen as the special event. Mixing these 3 types of content will help give your channel the structure it needs to grow and attract audiences outside your community, while engaging your existing subscribers.
Evergreen videos or evergreen content vs Topical trending videos, viral trends and pop culture videos. Evergreen videos aim to plant the seed for slower but long term growth while topical trending viral topic videos aim to ride the wave and gain rapid growth but does not guarantee a long life span.
WHAT IS EVERGREEN CONTENT? – Evergreen content is content that is always relevant—much like the way evergreen trees retain their leaves all year around. Interesting and relevant content that does not become dated is necessary in order to be found online by search engines.
WHAT IS TOPICAL CONTENT? – Topical content is timely, relevant content that relates to something current. The obvious advantages to this type of content are that it’s of-the-moment and usually, highly searchable. While topical content is great for achieving a temporary spike in traffic, it tends to have a fleeting appeal.

How to deal with haters on YouTube and how to deal with hate comments, or trolls is a question I get asked all the time. Haters, hate comments and internet trolls have become commonplace in online communities but YouTube hater comments can actually help you.
YouTube hate comments and YouTube trolls tend to pick on looks, or videos randomly. Dealing with YouTube haters is a mind set and I suggest there are 3 ways to deal with YouTube haters.
1 – Ignore Them – They are only looking for a reaction or attention. They dont know who you are or how hard you’ve worked so their opinion doesn’t matter
2 – Reply to them – Replying to a hate comment can help you get a measure of revenge or even an apology.
3 – Encourage them! – Hate comments, dislikes and trolls are ENGAGING with your video and this can HELP you in YouTube search. Every interaction on a video good or bad is seen as a positive mark in the YouTube Algorithm
